The Student Tutoring & Computer Lab (STC) is hiring for part-time Professional Tutors in the areas of:

Chemistry
-
Anatomy and Physiology
-
Health Sciences
The STC is a collaborative and welcoming environment where tutors and staff play a critical role in helping students be successful in their courses at Hawkeye. Specifically, as a professional tutor, you will be providing high-quality tutoring services for students where you will plan and guide the learning processes for students towards the achievement of curricular goals and objectives.
Our Tutors work between 4 – 20 hours per week and are either located in the Student Tutoring & Computer Lab on main campus or at our Adult Learning Center Campus in downtown Waterloo. This is an opportunity to earn tutoring certification through the College Reading and Learning Associate.
Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Tutors’ students in specific course material and integrate study skills and learning strategies to promote independent learning

Supports the Testing Center by serving as a reader/scribe for students with accommodations

Supports the activities of the STC Lab

Presents study skills and outreach workshops in the STC Lab

Visits classrooms to promote STC Lab services

Performs other duties as assigned.

Unless otherwise noted approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in related field of instruction. Associates degree can be considered dependent on classes taken.

Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
-
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff.

Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, maintain student confidence and protect operational integrity.
-
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public).
Preferred Qualifications
Working Conditions
The schedule can be flexible including morning, afternoon, and evening hours. Anticipated hours can be Monday – Thursday between 8am and 6pm and Friday’s between 8am and 3pm. Evening or weekend hours are possible based on student need/availability.
Requires skills for succeeding in a classroom and/or clinical environment, using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Work is performed in a classroom, lab, or clinical setting. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computer.
